"I am known for creating abstract modernist paintings that are simplistic and minimal, but also for illustrations and experimental videos that are textured, energized and psychedelic.
I see this duality as being representative of the way I have lived my life over the past twenty years; working in fast paced Graphic Design studios in Auckland, New Zealand and Melbourne before moving to the calmer pace of the Northern Rivers.
As an artist and individual I crave both space and activity, and my studio is where this duality comes through in my work. My paintings and creative studio process is heavily affected by the music that plays from the beginning to the end of my day.
The right album can take a work to places I never consciously would have conceived before beginning. I love that sound can adjust my mindset, and then those thoughts are transferred into the physical process of creating a painting.
Most of the bands and producers I am drawn to have a really strong understanding of tone and space, and obviously there is a clear correlation to my painting.
Having been an Art Director/Graphic Designer most of my adult life, I see visual art as my personal outlet, a place separate and unconstrained by corporate briefs or the computer.
